Infrastructure

The classrooms are buzzing with activities. They are designed and equipped with complete paraphernalia to cater to the needs of children of different age groups. When students are engaged and motivated and feel minimal stress, information flows freely and they achieve higher levels of cognition, make connections, and experience “aha” moments. Such learning comes not from quiet classrooms and directed lectures, but from classrooms with an atmosphere of exuberant discovery.

The classrooms are  designed to encourage interaction and active learning; it is not a place for a lot of paper and pencil activities and set up is to make sure that all the areas are clearly defined. It is sound and welcoming with pictures, posters and child’s work which educators  display on the activity wall, the rules and agreement, golden words, behavioural chart, name and birthday cards and more.

The UWCEC nursery classrooms are equipped child-size furniture, and a rug for story and group session. Areas are clearly designated and labeled although the children are too young to read, they will quickly learn what activity takes place in each area.

One of the important centers in nursery section is the literacy center; this is an area where children can explore books and develop the joy and curiosity through the lively illustrations.

The dramatic play is also an important part of the pre-school curriculum. This area is supplied with toys, a kitchen area with dishes and make believe food and other props to encourage dramatic play.

An area, with manipulative equipment where a child can build with legos or place pegs in the string, use blocks of different sizes and shapes and string beads which will help them practice their hand eye coordination and planning and problem solving skills.

The art center is well supplied with paints, brushes, colored paper, safety scissors and paste, and clay are additions to the art center.
