Gudi Padwa Celebration at UWCEC
Gudi Padwa is a traditional festival that marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year and it is usually celebrated in March or April. This festival has both a cultural and religious significance.
The term “Gudi Padwa” is derived from two words “Gudi”, which refers to a decorative flag on the banner made of a bright cloth and placed on a pole and “Padwa”, which means the first day of the month.
At UWCEC, the teachers explained to the students why we celebrate Gudi Padwa by showing them a powerpoint presentation and also a video based on the story of Gudi Padwa.
The children also erected a Gudi in their own classes and discussed the importance of it. The teachers guided the students and they worshiped the Gudi.
This was followed by various activities done in each class. The tiny tots of Nursery made a Gudi with craft paper under the guidance of their teachers; Jr.kg coloured a Gudi Padwa worksheet and Sr.kg made greeting cards with the help of their teachers. All these activities developed their fine motor skills.
It was a fun and special festival marking the start of a new year for Maharashtrian people and it was celebrated with great enthusiasm by everyone at UWCEC.
