Starting them young on Maths!

Starting them young on Maths!

Children have to be trained for the practical application of numbers in daily life. Numbers are the basis of learning Math skills.

In UWCEC, the Sr. Kg. children are getting acquainted not only with recognition of numbers and rote counting but also with how to compare objects with numbers, the concept of more and less or fewer and more than.

The children are also taught backward counting for the numbers 20-1. They simultaneously do number names where in the numbers are introduced with the help of a small story.

Counting and comparing numbers and shapes with objects is reinforced through different games. In addition they are also becoming familiar with tally marks. They are getting an overall practice as to how numbers are used for counting.

Math is an important subject which allows them to create a strong foundation for further usage.

Importance of Family taught at UWCEC!

Importance of Family taught at UWCEC!

Family is a small but close-knit unit that consists of parents, siblings and grandparents. We love watching movies together, playing games and even going on vacation with our family members.

At UWCEC we made our Nursery toddlers understand the importance of family members, their role in our lives and how they contribute to our growth and development through various activities.

Students were explained the characteristics of each member through puppets, cartoon pictures and a worksheet activity of mom and dad wherein they had to complete the picture by drawing a few lines on it. The teachers had even planned a game in which the cutouts of all the family members were laid on the mat and the students were supposed to choose the correct member’s picture and put it in the respective basket.

In this way the tiny tots of Nursery enjoyed the theme while simultaneously imbibing the importance of family members.

Introducing Hindi at UWCEC!

Introducing Hindi at UWCEC!

Kindergarten provides for the best transition from home to school for a child.

One of the most important milestones of a child that develops during these years of Kindergarten is language. They learn how to listen, speak, recognise words and spellings and start forming alphabets. They also start using language for the important purpose of communicating their needs to adults around them.

In UWCEC this year we introduced Hindi to the Sr kg students. They are learning the language in interesting ways. Teachers have started teaching the Hindi “swar” through simple words which the students can relate to easily. They are also helping the children revise Hindi with patterns like daya, vakra aadi rekha, khadi rekha.

Further practice has also been done in the form of  tracing “Aah” in the worksheet. Teachers explained these words through pictures and with the help of flash cards.

This method is helping the children to gain more knowledge about Hindi in an easy manner and they’re easily being able to master 2 languages at a time.
